How Much Is My Broken Car Worth?

The value of a broken car depends on several factors, including its age, mileage, condition and the repairs it needs. A vehicle with a failed engine or gearbox may still have a reasonable salvage value, particularly if the bodywork and interior are in good condition.

Some broken cars are suitable for repair, while others are purchased for spare parts or recycling. This means the value can vary considerably between vehicles, even when they have similar faults.

We assess each car individually rather than offering a fixed scrap price. Newer vehicles, popular models and cars with reusable parts can sometimes be worth significantly more than their scrap weight.

To get an accurate quote, it's important to tell us about any known faults, previous accident damage and the general condition of the vehicle. You don't need to have the problem diagnosed by a garage before requesting a price, but any information you can provide will help us assess it.

Sell Your Non-Running Car

A non-running car can be difficult to sell privately, particularly when it won't start or needs specialist recovery equipment to move it.

We buy non-running cars with a wide range of faults, including seized engines, broken timing belts, gearbox failure and electrical problems. We also consider vehicles that have been standing unused for long periods or have failed their MOT.

Your car doesn't need to start or be roadworthy for us to collect it. Our transport team can arrange recovery from your home, workplace or garage, provided there is suitable access for the collection vehicle.

If your car has flat tyres, seized brakes, steering problems or other issues that could affect recovery, please mention these when requesting a quote so we can make the necessary arrangements.

What Types of Broken Cars Do We Buy?

We buy cars with many different mechanical and electrical faults, including vehicles that are no longer economical to repair.

Common faults we deal with include:

  • Engine failure, knocking engines and seized engines
  • Gearbox failure and automatic transmission problems
  • Broken timing belts, timing chains and wet belts
  • Head gasket failure and overheating problems
  • Turbocharger and DPF faults
  • Electrical problems and vehicles that won't start
  • Clutch failure and other transmission faults
  • MOT failures and vehicles requiring expensive repairs

We also buy accident-damaged cars and insurance write-offs, including Category S and Category N vehicles.

Whether your car still drives or has completely stopped working, we can assess its condition and provide a quote. If you're looking to scrap an unwanted car instead, see our scrap my car service.

How to Sell Your Broken or Non-Running Car

Selling your car to Easy Scrap Car Collections involves three steps.

1. Get Your Quote

Enter your registration number and postcode, followed by a few details about your car. We'll need to know the mileage, overall condition and any faults you're aware of.

2. Accept Our Offer

Once we've assessed the vehicle, we'll provide a quote for you to consider. Our standard quotes are valid for 48 hours, so there's no pressure to make an immediate decision.

If you're happy with the price, you can accept the offer and arrange collection.

3. Arrange Collection and Payment

We'll book collection from a suitable location at an agreed time. Our driver will normally provide around one hour's notice before arriving.

Once the vehicle has been checked against the details supplied, we'll make an instant bank transfer before the driver leaves with your car.

You can see the process end to end on our how it works page.

Free Collection for Broken and Non-Running Cars

We provide free vehicle collection throughout England, Scotland and Wales, covering major cities, towns and surrounding rural areas.

Whether your car is at home, parked at work or being stored at a garage, we can arrange collection without any additional recovery or transport charges.

Same-day or next-day collection is often available, although this depends on your location and transport availability.

If your vehicle is difficult to access or cannot be moved normally, let us know beforehand so we can arrange suitable recovery.

What Happens to My Car After Collection?

Not every broken or non-running car is destined for scrap. Depending on its condition, a vehicle may be repaired, dismantled for reusable parts or sent for recycling.

Cars with major mechanical faults can sometimes be repaired economically by specialist traders, while vehicles beyond repair may still contain valuable components.

Where a vehicle is permanently scrapped, it must be processed by an authorised treatment facility. A Certificate of Destruction is issued where applicable.

We'll also arrange the necessary ownership paperwork and explain what you need to do with the DVLA when selling your vehicle.
