If your damaged car falls into categories C, D, N, or S, you can still repair and restore your car to its former glory. But first, you’ll have to buy it back from your insurance provider. Your agreement to keep the car should reflect on the settlement figure. To keep a category C or S vehicle, insurance providers require the complete log book. Then, you can use a V62 form to apply for a free duplicate log book. But you don’t have to send your log book to buy back a damaged vehicle in category D or N from your insurance provider.
It is tempting to repair the car yourself and watch as your skills transform scrap into a roadworthy vehicle. But repairing written off cars require expertise to meet the requirements of the Association of British Insurers. Sometimes, you can buy back a damaged vehicle in categories C, D, N, or S then realize that you can’t afford or don’t have the time to repair it. If you find yourself in this position, don’t panic because you can still turn the scrap into hard cash.
